O-rings should not be stretched or compressed excessively at pre-install. The opposite sealing surface will compress the o-ring and make the seal. If the o-ring is tight, it is in the wrong place. In cherryz's pic you could probably easily spin the o-ring in its groove, where in Gordo's pics they both are very tight.
